Here's the kitchen before they started the work. Normally I would show an after picture, but I want you to experience the shock that I felt after looking at all of the before photos of the house and then getting to see the finished product. It is jaw dropping.

I dedicate my post today to a blog that I absolutely LOvE! It's by a woman who lives in Texas and favors French design. Yes, as she says, it does exist. French design in the state of Texas.

Well, she is truly an inspiring woman and I feel inferior to her every time I see one of her designs. As you can see of her own home, she is a very talented woman who can be found at her very own blog Cote De Texas!

Cote De Texas recently gave the advice that I think we all search after, "What kitchen styles will last the longest?" Here is what she said,

"One of the more frequently asked question by clients that I get is about kitchen remodeling. As with all interior design, in 10 years time, a kitchen can become dated. Clients are forever wondering what countertop will look best and untrendy for the next decade or two. The answer is truly – none. Everything dates, especially countertops. I suppose that classic black granite or white marble is perhaps the least trendy, except both, especially the white marble, are so in right now that the years 2000-2010 may always be associated with these gorgeous materials."

And these books are 16th and 17th Century Vellum bound books. Wouldn't they be great for decorations? Some collections are worth $13000.

African Sketckbook, My Fave!

I am obsessed with this fabric! It's hand made by a company in South Africa called African Sketchbook. Artists there write beautiful stories all over fabric and then turn them into drapes and furniture. I love them so much, I'm almost tempted to pay the price for them. It starts at only $128 per yard... :) Oh and if you are interested in getting your hands on these, you can get them here in Atlanta. The only place in the whole US.

I seriously love this book. I rarely purchase a book, but this is one I can find myself referring too often.

If you're like me and are clueless of how to decorate your house, then you should read this book. I really didn't understand Feng Shui and how it works, but I am now a believer. How your environment is at home really does reflect how you live your life. I was so clueless on how to decorate my dining room and bedroom, but now I feel like I know exactly what I want and where I want it to go. This book gives specific things you can put in your room to make it balanced and beautiful. I highly recommend it. Not sure about it, just check it out first from the library like I did, just make sure all the pages are in it. Mine had about 10 pages ripped out. Apparently, I'm not the only person who loved this book.

Now if I could just find some time to paint my walls, I could get started. I swear I will post some pictures some time this year.

Mother's Patriotic Quilt

This is a quilt my mother made for a friend who is suffering from terminal cancer. She is trying to raise money to help her good friend out. I did help a very little. I love it though, it's very patriotic.

Pork Chips

This recipe is sooooo good! I got it from a friend who made it for us and we have had friends in return ask us for the recipe. It makes your house smell good all day long, better than a pot roast. So now you know it's good and did I forget to mention it's made in the crock pot? Yeah, life made easier!

Pork Chips

-2 & 1/4 cups dried pinto beans (They must be dried, not canned)
-2 lbs pork roast/shoulder
-7 cups water
-1 large onion
-4 cloves garlic minced
-1 tbsp salt
-2 tbsp chili powder
-1 tsp. oregano
-1 (4oz) can green chilis

Throw all ingredients into the crock pot in the order listed above. Cook on low for at least 5-6 hours. When you're about ready to serve, break apart meat into small pieces. It should just fall apart.

Extra Ingredients

-Tortilla chips
-Sour Cream
-Salsa
-Cheese

Layer your plate with chips and top with pork/bean mixture and add toppings.

*This recipe makes A LOT of food, so you might want to cut it in half if it's for a couple of people or you'll have left overs for days.

Fireplace Remodel

So this is old, but in the spirit of creating, I thought I would share it anyway. I re-tiled our fireplace all by myself. Yes, no help from the hubby. He had himself pretty convinced that if I wanted the fireplace redone, then I was going to do it myself. I didn't argue because at the same time he put wood floors in our down stairs. It took him an entire week from 5:30am to 10pm with VERY short breaks in between. He was tired. So my point is, women can do these kinds of things by themselves. I did while wearing slippers. Amazing.

Baked Potato Soup

This soup is NOT a healthy alternative, but dang is it good. Perfect for those days when it's cold or you just don't care what you eat, as long as it tastes good. I got it from someone who said it was delish! So Hailey and I tried it together. As you can see, she helped wrap the potatoes.

Baked Potato Soup

4 baked potatoes, cooled, peeled, and cubed
2/3 cup butter
2/3 cup flour
7 cups of milk
4 green onions sliced
1 1/4 cup grated cheese
8 ounces sour cream
1 lb bacon fried and crumbled (I bake my bacon)
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper

In a large saucepan melt butter. With a wire whisk, stir in flour until well blended. Stir in milk, then potatoes and onions. Bring to a boil. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in remaining ingredients and serve.
